Info-mercials Through A Child’s Eyes

Contributed by Johnny Graves

My daughter loves to wake up before the sunrise and turn on the direct tv Summerville. Some of her favorite things to watch are info-mercials. This makes me laugh because she is only eight, and at eight, the products shown on these info-mercials are beyond amazing. Her latest love since the “Snuggie” and “Bend-a-roos” are “Pajama Jeans.” The product touts supreme comfort like pajama bottoms but the sensational look of fashion jeans. Since my daughter is all about comfort, these jeans are more than she could ever ask for! She has watched this commercial in its entirety probably ten times, and this last time, she even copied down the 1-800-number , so we could order a pair for me and the free bonus pair could be for her once she gets bigger. I have to laugh at her naïve perspective, but at the same time I almost yearn for the days when such simple things could bring me joy- when a pair of jeans with the comfort of pajamas could seem like a true fashion miracle. These days, finding a pair of jeans that doesn’t sag at the butt and cup at the thighs sounds like a miracle to me!

Demetri Martin - Stand-Up Comedian Review

Alright,
Next comic up is a comic by the name of Demetri Martin. He has had a comedy central special, premium blend appearance, and worked on The Daily Show. He currently has a show on Comedy Central called Important Things. He is like a Mitch Hedberg comedian, but slower pace and a different appearance. By this i mean his jokes are very witty and he has a monotone voice when he presents it. With his appearance comes an almost nerd-ish look. So he does have an appearance to go with his stand-up. His jokes aren't really fast paced either. They're actually a lot slower than most comedians. I do recommend his stand-up. In his stand-up he incorporates music, singing, drawing, pictures, and normal stand-up. It's a different form of comedy which is very funny, but i would not recommend his show. He isn't the best at sketch comedy, let's just say that.
For his stand-up comedy i give him a 7 out of 10. For his show i'd give him a 5 out of 10.
I would recommend his stand-up Comedy Central special.

Mitch Hedberg - Stand-up Comedian Review

Ok,
This comic is very different. He recently ranked 14 in the 2009 Comedy Central Stand-up Showdown. He goes by the name of Mitch Hedberg. He is a very clever comedian, more of a random revelation comedian. He uses a lot of witty one-liner jokes. There isn't another comedian like him. He is able to make normal every day average things hilarious, but in a different way than Jerry Seinfeld. His jokes setups aren't as long first off, and then his presentation is different. It isn't a very good presentation style (no eye contact, almost slurred speech, wears sunglasses), but these things somehow match up with the act very well. With all of his presentation he just manages to fire out short, fast jokes one after the other after the other. His "character" is what makes his act finished. He has very long hair and usually is wearing bit dark sunglasses. His appearance and his witty jokes combine to produce an act that is never really done before.
I give him a 8 out of 10. I would say he deserves more for his wittiness but i can't leave out the fact of his presentation. *cough* 9 out of 10 *cough* :P
I highly do recommend this comedian, but sadly i do regret to say that he has passed away. It is a sorrowsome subject, but he will not have any new comedy.

Comedy Recordings anyone?

Alright,
So i was thinking about this blog and how it's for reviews and comedy. I was wondering if i should post my own comedy recordings. First off not many people visit this blog, and second off not many people like to comment. So if this one if i could get some feedback that'd be cool. My idea was what if i posted some of my comedy but in a recording. It's a bit of a sketchy idea but maybe it'd be cool.

Comment and suggest please and thanks for reading

The Amazing Johnathan - Stand-up Comedian Magician Review

Ok,
The Amazing Johnathan(coincidentally same name i promise) is one of the most intriguing comedians ever. He is really like a hybrid between comedy and magic. His very stuck-up personality and terrible magic create a very funny act. He is actually my inspiration so I'm a bit biased. He doesn't have any voice effects or anything like that. Because he doesn't even need them. His facial expressions and screw-ups in magic are hilarious enough. He is the first comic to ever make me laugh out loud just from seeing him on TV. In the simplest terms he is a very crazy comedian. You never know what he is going to do next...literally. Not only is he just the one performing, he has an assistant, Psychic Tanya. A not too bright old fashioned magician assistant. Her antics combined with his stuck-up act blends very well. I give him a lot of recommendation just due to the fact that it is a rare type of comedian. Also he learned to turn a negative into something more. His terrible magic is hysterical, but sometimes his magic works.
I am a bit biased for him but I will give him a 7 out of 10.

And I do know it seems most comedians fall around this number so far but that is because I've only reviewed comedians that I find amazing. And because he is my inspiration i own both of his DVD's and an autographed book (fanatic). I would mostly recommend his comedy central special DVD

I would post my inspiration story but I really don't think anyone wants to hear it :P

Gabriel Iglesias - Stand-up Comedian Review

Alright,
I got my second review now. It's about a latino comedian, Gabriel Iglesias. He is a bigger guy. Overall he is hilarious. He is very active and energetic and it is a faster paced comedy almost. He has great facial expressions but the very best part about his comedy has to be his voice. His voice can go to a very high pitch also which is hilarious for him. Also he manages to do some very interesting and funny sound effects. Last but definitely not least he does impressions very well. He isn't like any other impressionist though. He incorporates his impressions very well, because his entire act is not only impressions, which helps a viewer stay interested. Through all of these voice effects he can exaggerate his emotions quite a bit, which makes everything a lot funnier. With a combination of his voice effects and his energetic act and even great timing he puts together a almost perfect act.
I give him an 8 out of 10. Honestly he is very funny. One of the few comedians who will actually make me laugh from just watching him on TV or DVD. I have his DVD also and i recommend it 100%.

Attempt at writing comedy online...

OK,
I'm gonna try something a bit risky...I'm going to post some of my very raw comedy(As in not completely written).
#1 - OK, so anyway while i was hanging out with a very good friend of mine at a store we got bored. So we decided to leave and as we were walking out my friend said to the sales clerk "have a nice night", and the guy responded "take it easy". Right as he was saying, "take it easy", i was saying the same thing like almost at the same time. So it didn't come out all the way. It was like "tak..ahem", and i walked out the door.
#2 - As i was driving by a "do not stop on railroad" sign one night, i said to myself, wow that is a very important sign. Then i began to think...wow i drive down this road all the time but I've never headed this signs warnings. Then i realized it had to do with the fact that the only time i usually drive down that road is around rush hour. Which led me to realize that my only thought while on a road during rush hour is "if i don't make this light I'm gonna murder everyone here".
#3 - When i was walking outside first stated shop, i saw an army recruiting station right next to a marine recruiting station, and my first thought was ...i wonder if they pull pranks on each other. Like if they move around the letters on their signs.

So that is a little bit of comedy i came up with randomly and it is the first time ive written on it. So please don't judge too harshly but constructive (keyword:constructive) criticism is good. Thanks for reading

Alright,
Wow a double post Shocking!
So my friend ...is crazy. He has a squirrel in his backyard that will willingly let him get within 3ft of it. He can almost touch it. Then the squirrel loses it's mind and runs away rabid from the sight of my friend. And that's the video

Drew Hastings - The Jonny Review (wish i had a better title)

Alright First Review - Drew Hastings (would post a photo but I'm not sure about copyright :P)
This is a very good comedian. He has a unique style to his act. He is a bit older, and his hair is crazy. These things make him more watchable than other comedians who don't have a unique look. He is very outgoing which helps his act out a lot. He doesn't shout too much though like some other comedians *cough* Dane Cook *cough*. I know Dane Cook is an excellent comedian, but I'll get to him later. There are times in his act where you'd wish he'd get to the point a bit quicker, but if you press on he will hit the point. He has very good facial expressions also. He has some wierd moments in the DVD though. Besides the negative I'd recommend him.
I will give him a a 7 out of 10.
A modest score, but give me a break this is my first review. I will definitely recommend his DVD. I currently have it and I have no regrets.

First Post

Hey,
This will be my first post so sadly no reviews. I will go ahead an state the purpose of this blog. I am trying to review comedians to help you select which comedians you would like to watch. I will try to post daily a new comic. As I start out I will defiantly not make that daily quota due to the fact that i will be reviewing and editing this blog. I apologize for this but just gimme some time and I will catch on to blogging. As I begin posting I will post more famous comedians. I will post a picture of the comic, a brief review, and then my rating on this comic. As I have stated in my description, I am an aspiring comic. I will attempt to be funny on this blog. If the jokes are not funny, I apologize i am trying to be a comedian. These jokes may come in the form of pictures or in a post. Thank you for visiting my blog and email me if you have suggestions and or comments.
